Healing Sexual Addiction: From Compulsion to Celebration

  • Are you confused about why you can’t seem to stop the compulsion, even though you know it doesn’t work?
  • Do you feel like you swing from sexual addiction to sexual anorexia?
  • Are you unable to separate the old alliance of sex and shame?
  • Is sex helping you connect or keeping you separate from others?
Sex can be the way we make the most intimate contact with others — a wonderful celebration of life. If you absorbed the culture’s, or your own history’s, sexual shame and had inadequate or destructive models for sexual development, sex can take on many other functions: a coping mechanism, an escape, a mood adjustor, an identity, a covert way to fulfill unmet childhood needs, etc.

This group is designed to facilitate the incorporation of sex as a healthy, working part of life. You will join in a healing community with others who also bring a significant level of intention to create experiences such as these:

  • Loving yourself as a sexual being
  • Recognizing the way sex has functioned in your life
  • Shedding debilitating shame and appreciating the desire for genuine pleasure
  • Removing old judgments to discover what really works for you and what doesn’t
  • Uncovering intimacy barriers that you have used sex to avoid seeing
  • Learning to navigate the “gray areas” between abstinence and addiction
  • Reconnecting your sexual self and your higher self and your spirituality
A group will be beginning this fall at The Institute for participants who are willing to explore their sexual behavior with understanding, compassion and without judgment (participation in a sexual recovery program is not required). The Institute’s focus is recovery of Self: recovery of emotional, spiritual and sexual wholeness. Our programs are for anyone seeking a path of personal growth and healing.

Individual consultations are always available by appointment, call 212-242-5052, ext. 1.
